Hello, thank you for choosing to read my blog. I wanted to start putting my fashion research out on the web for other people to read and enjoy. I try my best to really dig into each style that I research and get the most accurate information possible for myself and now for those of you reading this! y2k

If you’re into programming, look into the y2k bug, it's interesting to read about. The style is heavily influenced by the distinctive looks of the early 2000s. It is gaining popularity in the 2020s again which is probably because of nostalgia for the kids that grew up during this time. In general, styles seem to come back every 20 to 30 years. There are a few different types of y2k but I’m going to give you all the details about what I see when I think of y2k. The style combines a retro and futuristic kind of vibe, reflecting the sleek appearance of the era’s new tech. Flip phones were more popular at the time and those have been coming back too, people decorate flip phones super cute online. The y2k style was born out of the rise of fast fashion as well as growing celebrity influence, ex. Britney Spears, Christina Agulera, and Paris Hilton. It was a big age of Victoria's Secret and Victoria's Angels, the body standards for women were very harsh, they tended to be more on the unhealthy side too. There is such a variety of different y2k styles so let me know which ones you’re interested in hearing more about.

Into some of the iconic traits of the y2k style, this one is very fun and colorful, everything chunky, midriffs on display, and tramp stamps trending.

Colors: bright pinks, teals, electric blues, pastels, metallics, neon greens, vivid oranges

Textures: denim, velour, vinyl, PVC

Styles: boot cut jeans, velour tracksuits, mesh tops, bedazzled tops (rhinestones), leather tops: pants: and skirts, chunky shoes, scarf tops, showy accessories like big chunky necklaces, pedal pushers (capris), jelly shoes, jelly bracelets, aviator glasses, white belts, studded belts and studded bracelets, hoop earrings, trucker hats, newsboy caps, leg warmers, ugg boots, low-rise, chunky heels

Again, there are so many different kinds of y2k like mcbling, scene, dark y2k, and a ton more. Y2k brings up nostalgia from movies like Mean Girls and Clueless (both can be found on Paramount + and on YouTube).

Shop

When shopping for y2k styles please do not pay hundreds of dollars for a top on depop, don’t get me wrong, depop is a great place for y2k pieces but please research before purchasing anything expensive off of there. Some of these resellers are going nuts with pricing “y2k” anything. My favorite place to look for cute things to tie into whatever y2k styles is TJ Maxx, the one I go to always has Juicy Pajama Sets and I love them they're so cute and comfy. I have one that's a lighter pink short sleeve baby tee and pants and another that is a black set with the same style top but shorts to go with it. I am also into thrifting, I used to go to the same goodwill I go to now since I was in elementary school, they did move the store's location a few years ago though. 

I couldn’t really find any stores that were selling y2k fashion, I do think that Hot Topic might have some stuff though if you know what you're looking for. Maybe check out some reseller online shops like Depop and Etsy.
