Infodumping part one

TW FOR S3XUAL STUFF!!!!

So I’m a huge fan of this band called Pansy Division, they’re a queer rock band formed in 1991 by Jon Ginoli and Chris Freeman. They were one of the first openly gay rock bands, formed when guitarist Jon Ginoli started playing solo, under the name “Pansy Division”, because he was frustrated by the lack of out, gay rock musicians.

He put an ad in the paper for “gay musicians into the Ramones, Buzzcocks, and early Beatles”, and that’s how he met Chris Freeman.

In the height of the AIDS crisis, they wrote pro-gay, pro-safe sex songs, and even gave out protection when you bought their albums. They’ve done covers of Nirvana (‘Smells Like Queer Spirit’), Ned Sublette (‘Cowboys are Frequently Secretly Fond Of Each Other’) and the Ramones (‘Rock n Roll Queer Bar’), and they opened for bands like Green Day and Rancid.

They wrote funny songs and serious songs, and they even have a documentary. They helped a lot of closeted queer kids feel less alone.
