Parliament Ruins

I arrived 5 minutes late to the Parliament Ruins gig and was hit in the face by a wall of sound. I’d gone to this gig solely because I was mates with the band, it was the day before my birthday and I figured it was a nice gesture to show up. I ended up liking it more than I expected, so I was texting people frantically saying “Dude, you’ve gotta come and hear these guys play!”

It was abrasive and overwhelming; the singing was loud, the wailing of the guitars and their feedback was louder, and the drums were fighting to be heard over it all. The show quickly dissolved into what could only be described as organized chaos, it wasn’t difficult to understand why it was called anarcho-punk.

The music was very politically inclined, as suggested by the name. Jabs towards Sunak and other members of political parties were both voiced during and in between songs, plastered onto hand-painted merchandise. The high-energy delivery was well executed, and the small group of us that were there had a great time.

But the show wasn’t perfect, as Parliament Ruins did not play Weezer. Hopefully they will next time.
