There is a storm coming, and honestly the rain part is not what everyone is worried about. In my city the infrastructure for the electricity and the water (A private company owned by and Out Of State Co.👀 and The Mayor???👀 👀 respectively 👀) is real frail.
Last time there was a even slightly notable storm, the electricity was out for weeks, and the water also went down. So everyone is really not worried about wind and flooding, but the taps being unsafe, and weeks post storm with no refrigeration, no work or jobs, little transport ect.
I am really blessed in some ways, I already use propane bc I privately determined it is actually most cheap and eco frenly for me, so there is no issue cooking food/water, but i have to store 15-30 gallons of water in my 1br apt bc if the pipes go down you need water for utility use: washing dishes, hands, wounds, flushing toilets, ect.
I actually have a raised garden that I'll be able to pull fresh vegs from for a few days if my fridge goes down. Lots of tinned meat, which is not my fav but y'know, it's nice to have something. We have a solar panel+inverter+battery rig in the van, but we may need to move the van around to avoid flood, and we are nervous bc thieves stole parts of our solar array last time out the van as we were charging our batteries so we could power a mini cooler and a box fan, and a radio. That set us back like 800 bucks, so we are nervous this time.
but if all that holds up bc we E-bike, we the gas pumps stop working due to no electricity for the pumps I could/can still move around! I just have to watch road debris bc we don't have any spare inner tubes, if we catch a flat we're cooked.
If you want cold drink you can pre make baggies or ice bags of those drink to add to ur drinks, like wine, or tea, with out watering it down or using dirty ice out the cooler.
It's just a lot of prep for IF but like, also so much waiting. I hate that this is mostly about our utilities being really outdated and low quality but we pay modern prices for this inconvenience and anxiety.
