I just want for once to be understood
Without showing the secrets beneath my hood,
But I am a pomegranate, sealed so tight,
With a heart full of rubies, hidden from sight.
Each word I speak is a guarded rind,
A crimson shell where my truths unwind,
I wish you'd see, without tearing me apart,
The tenderness inside, the seeds of my heart.
But too often I'm split, and the world takes hold,
Of the crimson jewels, the stories untold,
And I'm left with an emptiness I can't defend,
Wishing someone would see me, from beginning to end.
For once, I long to be known as I am,
A whole, unbroken, untouched by hand,
To be cherished in silence, no words to command,
Just to be understood, without demands.
