I think that trying to classify music into strict genre delineations is a losing battle, which is why there are so many subgenres! It is just so difficult to sort bands without smaller categories for more specification. The part of me that is studying evolutionary biology actually loves the way that humans categorize stuff. Music genres reminds me of a phylogeny.
That being said, shoegaze and dreampop are two genres that I absolutely adore. I have been listening to all the big names in shoegaze for a while, like Slowdive, My Bloody Valentine, Mazzy Star, Lush, etc. But recently I have been trying to get more into smaller/lesser known shoegaze/dreampop (using them interchangably because ppl group them together) artists. It's so fun to go hunting for new music like I am hunting for the best berries on the bush in the neolithic era.
Anyway, all this to say, drop any shoegaze recs my way (or, if you don't have any, just general music recommendations!)

shoegaze is sort of a branch off from grunge as I understand it, and has very indie roots. The literal reason that the genre is called that comes from an article where a music critic was reviewing it and mentioned that the guitarists were always gazing at their shoes (this is because of the amount of effect pedals that are generally used in shoegaze to add a fuzzy, dreamlike quality to things).
