the caretaker - everywhere at the end of time

i love listening to songs from the caretaker's "everywhere at the end of time." god. these songs are so hauntingly beautiful. they give me a blissful yet terrifying sense of derealization. i feel like i'm a trance or fever dream when listening to them consecutively. it's indescribable.

the whole album is 6 hours long, and supposed to depict what dementia feels like, so i'm not expecting anyone who reads this to listen to the whole thing. i haven't listened to the whole thing either. i've watched and read essays on it, listened to many songs from it and the only part of the 6 hour album i listened to in full was the first bit. the longer you listen (maybe around the 3rd stage) it becomes incomprehensible noise. more than unsettling.

the album is separated into 6 stages, like the 6 stages of dementia. and god, the end. after the 6 hours. a deafening silence. it made me tear up when the overwhelming noise so rapidly turned to nothingness--silence.

something else worth mention is the album cover artwork. i see so much meaning within it. these surrealist images are so close to being objects you can name, yet you can't quite recognize what exactly they are. you've seen this before. it's familiar. you know it. but you're confused. you're so utterly confused. because you know what this is. you can almost make it out. but you can't. all you know is that it reminds you of something. something you almost remember. and the last one, simple, plain and empty. so clear. yet eerily lacking detail to a point it makes you question whether you really recognize what you're seeing. what a way to describe how dementia feels like. truly art. the music, artwork, everything about this masterpiece is so well done.

i recommend giving some of the earlier stages a listen (1-3 might be the best to listen to if you're only listening to a couple and not the whole album.)
