Abandonment issues are an informal term of a specific branch of anxiety some experience.
There can also be disorders link to peoples abandonment issues such as PTSD, BPD, DPD, APD, RPD, ROCD, and possibly other disorders.

Causes
Death
Losing a loved one, especially a parent, is a heavily traumatizing experience.
Grief can develop depression and anxiety, leading one to experience other losses and grief more severely.

This could be from a caregiver or an authority figure, making one have difficulty having healthy attachments.
Emotional abuse and neglect have the same effect as physical in this situation.

People raised in poverty or having family instability can develop anxious attachment styles, including abandonment issues.

Types of attachment styles
Disorganized
People who have been abused, neglected or have other trauma may develop attachment issues.
People with this attachment style feel anxious about relationships or want to avoid them all together because of the difficulty of remaining close or inconsistent.

People who have had emotionally distant caregivers may develop attachment issues.
People with this attachment style rarely allow anyone to get close to them.
You may feel you cannot trust other or open up, leading you to appear distant.

Anxious
People who have not felt secure or had their needs met may develop attachment issues.
People with this attachment style usually cope by heavily depending on their partner or having dependent relationships.
You may feel anxious over any kind of separation from your partner and react emotionally from the possibility of your partner leaving you, leading you to act out from fear.
