Sick of the Concept of Cringe

I have a rant. I have been thinking about this for a while, but it's the year 2024 now and I feel like I have fully accumulated my thoughts and stuff.

What even is cringe anymore ? ? ?

People call literally anything cringe nowadays, but I think the moments where I've been happiest and felt the most free is when I'm being "cringe". I also think people resort to calling stuff cringe when it's something they secretly want to do but are too self-aware and embarrassed to, so they dunk on other people doing it instead out of jealousy and the need to fit in. EX: Making fun of emo/scene kids, furries, cosplayers, etc . . .

Seriously, you could just be walking down the hall at school or wearing a shirt you like and somebody might take a picture of you and make fun of you online, all for nothing. I swear to god, it's like we're evolving backwards. Are we just not allowed to have fun anymore? We're all human.

Dressing as a character you like isn't "cringe", liking the music that sounds best to you isn't "cringe", that person wearing their hair in a fun new style isn't "cringe", that couple isn't "cringe" just because they're happy, you are just miserable and feel the undying need to conform.

I wish people would be less judgmental and simultaneously do whatever they want, because everybody would feel a lot more liberated that way, but I know things will never be like that because cringe culture has only been getting more and more restricting ...

I mean, you click on a "TikTok Cringe Compilation" on YouTube and every single video is either 1) A mentally or physically disabled person 2) Kids having fun 3) Somebody expressing themselves in an appropriate and non-harmful manner 4) An overweight person, so on, so forth. Usually none of it is ACTUALLY embarrassing. And they generally have so many views too, which just means more and more people are learning unnecessary hatred for others and are influenced by social norms.

But yeah, eh, whatever, it's not too bad I guess. I kinda wish things could be like how they were in 2004-2018, whatever, when you could do what you want and it'd always be funny or cool.
