Artfight Info Blog [My English Homework <33]

[This is just a blog I wrote for my English homework that I decided to share !!]

[All images are from the Artfight website linked here]

Hello and welcome to my blog. Today, I am talking about one of my more favourite interests known as Artfight.

What is Artfight? You might just be wondering what it is, and that’s what I’m here to tell you. Artfight is a trading game that happens every July. It’s where artists are divided into two teams that are themed off of something and they attack the members of the opposite team by drawing their characters.

Before we continue and get into more details about this, I believe it would be best if we went to the start and found out about the history of Artfight.

Artfight was created in 2007 by someone named Blankit who then ran the site for 5 years before stopping for personal reasons. In 2013, a person by the name of ChronicArtist started developing a website for Artfight, however, it was postponed, once again, for personal reasons. The concept was then handed off to another person named Takaia who held onto it until the site was eventually developed in 2016.

In 2023, the site became owned by three people; Axel, ClassicTurtle and Rainy who continue to develop and improve the site's performance and user experience. The site, as of August 2024, has now reached one million users on the site.

This is Wormstyn, one of the mascots of Artfight !!

Now that we have the history down, it’s time to explain the terms that the users of Artfight use. You may hear phrases like ‘Attacks’, ‘Defenses’, ‘On-Season’ and ‘Off-Season’ and even ‘Hitlists’. What are these? Well, Attacks are what you, the user, draws of another persons character during the event, Defenses are what other people draw of your characters, On-Season and Off-Season are terms that users use to describe when the event is and isn’t active. Hitlists are what people can fill out to have a higher chance of their characters being attacked that year. Revenges are attacks you do against someone who had attacked you first.

Like I mentioned before, there are two teams during the event. There have been teams since 2013, meaning there have been 24 teams so far. The teams, in order of 2013 to 2024 are ;

Past vs. Future, Zombies vs. Hunters, Color vs. Monochrome, Magic vs. Technology, Sun vs. Moon, Coffee vs. Tea, Dream vs. Nightmare, Sugar vs. Spice, Steampunk vs. Cyberpunk, Bloom vs. Wither, Vampires vs. Werewolves and Seafoam vs. Stardust.

The theme this year was Seafoam vs. Stardust and the reason I am mentioning this is because this year, over 2 million attacks were made and 425,217 people participated. That was double the amount of attacks and people who participated in Artfight last year !! This also resulted in Seafoam gaining 62 million points and Stardust gaining 63 million points.

Here are the teams including winners [From 2015->2024]

Now, you might be wondering, what are points? Well, points are what you gain after attacking someone. You gain the full amount of points if you attack someone on the other team, however, if you attack someone on your own team a.k.a. Commit friendly fire, you only gain 20% of the full points of the attack you made. After Artfight ends, the points are then added up in total and helps the moderators figure out the winning team of that year.

Now, personally, I’ve used Artfight since May 2023. I participated in it when the teams were Vampires vs. Werewolves. I decided to join Werewolves and that was the winning team that year. Then, during the off-season I just added a few more characters and got up to having 5 of them. Then, this year, I participated in it and joined the team Seafoam, which unfortunately had lost. I then decided that having 5 characters wasn't enough on the site, so I added 16 more.

Artfight is one of my more favourite sites as it gives me an opportunity to show my art to others and share my characters. Artfight, in my experience, has been really fun. The other members have been lovely and the community is welcoming. I would highly recommend joining it if you like art, beginner or not.
