Dexter

I love dexter to death but the more i rewatch it the more dissatisfied i become. it was such an awfully tragic victim of its time and it makes me SOOOOO very sad, like, deb was such an amazing character and had so many shining moments but there were so many times that they just threw certain scenes at her that just made zero sense to me when applied to her baseline character and made it obvious that they only did it to use her to further a plot point. i keep noticing that they did that SO much with so many different character. like the whole lyla arc was obnoxious to me, they could've made her a more subtly evil character that would mess with dexter ever so often in increasingly messed up ways but they just didn't. i feel like they also made a massive mistake by making dexter cheat on rita with her, because like, while yes dexter does have emotions and desires he was already only barely comfortable with the idea of s*x with her by the time that lyla was introduced, so him up and going on a cheating bender after rita accused him of cheating (which tbh the weird kissing WAS cheating..) was just so WEIRD AND OFF!! i hated it so much. they could've done a subtle torturous buildup but no!!!! it makes me so sad because there are so many times i am rewatching it and im just like, damn. wow. wasted potential right here. this doesn't subtract from my love for the show though. also, there are so many continuity errors when it comes to him getting caught and whatnot. like, there is NOOOOOO WAY a street camera didn't catch him or something but i guess that's a narrative sacrifice they had to make in order to be able to make the show actually work. because let's be for real it isn't very easy to get away with a murder a week 😭
