I won't lie y'all but sometimes it feels like people treat "retard" as more of a slur than the N-word with the hard R. Honestly, even the "faggot" seems harsher than "retard" but it's used everywhere by everyone. We even use it in the lgbt community! Get on Twitter and just count how many times you see that word for a few days.
But the second someone comes in and says "retard" it's like the whole world stops? "Retard" is labeled as a reclaimable slur but it's the only slur where I never see that demographic actually use it. I'm black, I'll use the n-word. I'm queer, I'm definitely saying "faggot". I'm autistic, I use "retard" but I'm careful who I say it around,ESPECIALLY ON THE INTERENT. A lot of people treat "retard" as a criminal offense.
Maybe it's just me being a child from the early/mid 2000s or maybe it's just me growing up in a military family but I genuinely can't wrap my head around "retard" being as offensive as the n-word or "faggot".

I feel the same way, I'm autistic too with a learning disability and people also screech at me YOU CAN'T SAY THAT. Even if I explain it doesn't bother me and I actually am mentally I'll dummy, I have gotten told "Your doctor should be fired that's horrible, no one should ever call you stupid like that" It makes me feel like people are making learning disabilities invalid as an illness because their mind is too swallow to view it as anything more than an insult calling you dumb.
