Hi there, apart from being a party animal I also study philosophy and politics and recently I have noticed a "spike" in so-called hedonistic behaviour through the "brat summer" wave. I would argue that for the first time since pre 9/11(yes exactly) "brat summer" re-introduced the idea of shameless fun; illegal substances, alcohol, smoking etc all behaviours that are "controversial" but all lead to pleasure. So i think that for the next few years we will experience a very strong wave of hedonism that will almost resemble the shameless hedonistic attitudes of the 70s.
This is for many reasons mainly because young people like myself are lowkey exhausted of everything frankly and many people cannot find satisfaction in academics or careers... ultimate happiness will be pleasure and specifically short-term INTERACTIVE pleasure (and by that i mean that it will be exclusively done around others because ppl are also fed up with the short term pleasure of tiktok/other dopamine frying apps).
idk if this made any sense it is lowkey me talking about something completely random but id love to further discuss it xx

They talked about this in my social studies classes. Personally, I believe that it comes from an intense era full of standards and moral/ethical debates, it is overwhelming and forces people into a position of instant satisfaction. I'm curious how we'll see this behavior in 10 years.

another reason for this boom could be stuff like acab and free palestine movement + failing econemy leading to distrust in government and authority, and therfore the embrace and neutrality towards crime

it also totally reminds me of the boom that we had in new pop culture and "trashy" tv here in greece after the recession hit europe big time. i cant speak much for other countries, but we definitely had a very similar phenomenon thru 2008 to 2013 akin to brat summer
