why does music have such a effect on our moods?

Music has an great ability to alter our moods almost instantly, yet its never mentioned how this effect can be. music can be a rollercoaster for expressing emotions that the person may relate to. Listening to different genres or pieces can give specific feelings, making people get emotions like joy, sadness, anger, or love. Most pieces of music may be associated with memories good or bad, when a person listening feels like the piece of music is so understanding to their past/present situations it almost draws them into listening to it. whether its a happy piece that they feel happy when listening to, or something more sensitive that makes them feel completely ruined.

Even when a person is going on a walk/run ect. just beacause they feel good, and they decide to listen to music with some headphones whilst at it. When a more 'sad' song comes up it just almost always changes the vibe of how you expected it to be, then after a couple more sad songs you just feel demotivated and upset.. Maybe an increase of anxiety or strong enough to make you cry.

There have been researches of how music can cause depression and anxiety to a person, "certain songs, certain lyrics, certain genres of music are more likley to intensify depression or anxiety, sometimes as much or more as outside stressors and envoirmental problems" For others it can be a way to feel better or calmer, maybe even uplifting and not alone in their struggles.
