I don’t know how I ended up on the “moms shopping for their kids back to school” side of TikTok but I’m not complaining, I <3 stationary.
Except the other day I saw a post from an American mom being like “writing my daughter’s name on all the stuff we bought because the teachers will have to redistribute the stuff” I feel like sharing pencils/erasers/markers/paperclips is fine. A miscellaneous assortment of these things is fine, because they can be shared. But in the comments she said she really wished she could get her daughter the butterfly notebook she wanted but she couldn’t because of the redistribution thing???? Why would the teacher collect all the notebooks, mix them up, and give them out randomly?? That’s so dumb???
I get pencils because like, every kid can use it and put it back (they will most likely lose it but you get the idea) Or like erasers because same reason. And every kid would come up on the board and use the markers so I get it…but NOTEBOOKS??? BINDERS??? FILES??? Why would you have to redistribute that??
If I had like 28 students, and each one bought a pack of 12 to 24 pencils that’s around 330~670 and EVERYONE can share them. If I had 28 students, who came with 28 notebooks and I just redistributed them no one gains anything? I don’t get the point..
Maybe I’m understanding it wrong but can someone please tell me that’s not true? Or that this mom maybe worded it weird?? Because WHY?? WHY WOULD YOU NEED TO REDISTRIBUTE NOTEBOOKS?????

Regular spiral or composition notebooks can be bought in bulk and brought in. Those are good for redistributing because they're all plain and the same.
It should be a given that special notebooks can be kept by the student if they want to keep it. If the teacher is insisting that little Susie give away her special, fluffy, pink, butterfly notebook, then that is wrong.
Some people on tiktok are just stupid because they'll immediately assume things that aren't true. No, she will probably not have to give away her special notebook. Either the mom is being a teensy bit dramatic, or the commenters are exaggerating.
THANK YOU! omg I genuinely was baffled by the thought that teachers just take everything?? Surely someone would want their own personal stuff!
But in her comments she was replying like she could never by her daughter anything, people suggested that she bought it for at home activities and it sounds so sad like everyone collectively agreed that they never bought cool things for school :(
