August 2024 Reading Synopsis (ft. the train station)

Top Reads
1. Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine - Gail Honeyman
An honest take on mental health and loneliness, I recommend it to anyone because it's so relevant, I think this one's a future classic

2. The Travelling Cat Chronicles - Hiro Arikawa
Satoru's bond with his cat is heartwarming; sad but very sweet

3. Wuthering Heights - Emily Brontë
It's not fair to reduce Wuthering Heights to just. A romance book. It's so messed up. You ever eavesdropped on that one overly dramatic friend group back in school? It's like that

4. Flight or Fright - A short story anthology edited by Stephen King and Bev Vincent
It's hard to rank short story collections because of the many different writing styles included but I love short stories in general, they always pull me out of a reading slump

Honourable Mentions
The Thursday Murder Club - Richard Osman
White Nights - Fyodor Dostoyevsky

I genuinely read nothing that I didn't enjoy this month.

Else
It's been a slow summer but I've visited Newcastle with two friends who are going to university there, and the Blackwell's Book Shop was irresistible. Had to get myself a present. Here are the pictures I took at the wrong platform on the way back... I managed to misread 8 as 3.

Maybe I should've taken the wrong train. It looked fancy, like the Orient Express. But if you know me, I'm not from Edinburgh.

I'd like to read more spooky books in September. All of autumn is Halloween.

That's all for now.

I think White Nights out of every Dostoyevsky novel I read is my favorite. All of those books sound good, but I don't think my taste is that picky; the only book series I read and actively didn't like most of the parts was Fifty Shades of Grey--it was necessary for the bit.
