For a long time now, I've been wasting countless waking hours on mindless entertainment through Youtube and Instagram. Don't get me wrong, there's some cool, creative, and talented people on those sites. But over the years, there has been an overwhelming amount of stolen, bland, brain-rotting content. It's gotten to the point where, in the middle of scrolling through instagram, a small voice would yell- "This isn't real. You're wasting time. Stop," and then a funny video would play and I would continue scrolling.
Yesterday, I finally realized that something needed to be done. Having the app on my phone makes it really easy for me to scroll through a few posts whenever I'm bored. Which is often. Some people compare the effects of social media on the mind like drugs because of how similar they both give that quick-happiness high and how difficult it may be to cut off from it - which is thanks to big tech companies. They know the longer you spend on their apps- the more money they make through ads. So making their apps addictive is a no-brainer.
Realistically, I can't delete instagram because that's how I communicate with friends. So I hid the app through a bunch of folders so it's inconvenient to open up the app. So far, my usage time has decreased. But as I was writing the first paragraph I realized that the only reason why I use instagram/other-social-media-sites is because I'm bored. So what would be the easiest way to cut that boredom? Hobbies I guess.
So that's what I'm gonna do! I am tired of brainrotting, so I hope to use this website to put some actual thinking into creating something instead of mindless watching. Yeah,

I wish you success in your efforts to reduce brainrot screentime! I deleted instagram off my phone a while ago after being horrified by my screentime listing 2hrs a day spent there on average. Like the Book of Internet Proverbs says:
