when I walk da dog

My fave thing to do when I walk my ten-year-old dog is to watch her do dog things. Every time we go for a walk in our neighborhood, we encounter this black Labrador mix. He has many names Blacky, BlackJack, Fred.

He’s a nomad, he’s happy having free roam in the neighborhood and he doesn’t stick to one house. One woman tried to take him in. She moved away and took him to her new home on the farm. He came to the neighborhood a few weeks later. The woman said he just seemed happy being here.

He’s the most amazing dog. When I was younger, I always got worried during the winter because I didn’t know if he’d be okay. It was always a pleasure seeing him up and at it the following springs. He’s a lot older than I thought. I have pictures of him that date back to 2017. He has to be younger than my chihuahua, though.

My dad used to go for walks frequently. Blacky will tag along with just about anyone until something else catches his attention. He will chase after any car he sees and get close to a wheel in the front. My dad told me he once was walking in the open and he noticed a pitbull was chasing right in his direction. Before the dog reached him, Blacky pounced on him and pinned him to the ground. My dad made it clear he didn’t intend on hurting him; he just wanted to scare him. After he held him for a few seconds, he got off him. The pitbull, with his tail between his legs, took off. So he saved my dad’s life.

Is it weird to say that Blacky has always reminded me of a classmate? Since middle school. I cannot pinpoint how. The dog has stunning orange-brown eyes and the way he acts? Reminds me of my old classmate. He’s taller and a bit older than the others in our grade. He’s white, by the way…. My classmate. He looks a bit like Trent from Never Have I Ever.

The Good Boi (My dog makes a guest appearance)

Yeah. Every time my dog sees him, she’ll come up to his behind and sniff it since it’s a dog thing. Then he’ll pee on a mailbox, she’ll sniff it and try to pee, too. The most adorable thing she can do is snort and start kicking her back legs into the grass. Usually she does that when she spots him. What’s funny is these dogs will pee even if there’s nothing left in them. Brownie is okay with Blacky. He’d never hurt her. I fear Brownie doesn’t share the favor, though. Lol.
