The styles cute core was called kawaii (when talking about cute japanese things), jirai kei was called yami kawaii, yume kawaii was called fairy kei (basically a western name but still... they're very similar), douyin makeup was called ulzzang makeup (again very similar), city pop was called idol pop or simply 80's jpop, y2k was more of a futuristic concept than a fashion style and frutiger aero didn't have a name.
I don't know why we need to give new names to things already existing under different names, and if you ask me I think it's a little bit silly, especially when some of the styles haven't evolved at all with the name changes. But I guess it's because of our fascination with reinventing things and whenever something becomes mainstream it suddenly needs a new name apparently (^^;)
