headcanons should be treated as headcanons and canon should be treated as canon??

 i see so many people fighting over headcanons and it confuses me to be honest. like boo hoo they said you favorite buff character is trans or they drew a character different to how you would draw it, so fucking terrible oh my gog. 

i think alot of people dont realize that headcanons, and bear with me now cause this might get a little crazy, arent meant to be canon. OH MY GOG???? but yes, its true. the whole point of headcanons is to add onto or change something about a character to make them how you like them, not to make it as close to canon as possible (unless thats what your going for, ofcourse)

i love when people have headcanons that go AGAINST canon, like the homestuck troll skin color thing for example. like yes, making their skin color their blood color goes against canon and pisses so many people off, and while i dont share this hc and instead opt to make my trolls skin gray, i will 100% encourage people to do this. 

lets backtrack before i rant abt homestuck lolol

obvi if a hc is ACTUALLy bad, like flatout changing a characters race because you dont like that race (people actually do this btw?? wtf???) then yes its okay to complain. im not saying you shouldnt be allowed to dislike headcanons either. im just saying to not say anyhting when your just being mean. :)) smiley face

point is- headcanons should not be treated as someone trying to make or say something is canon and instead should be seen as a person adjusting a character to their liking to make them more enjoyable or relatable to them. people should be allowed to do whatever they want to a media to make it a better experience for them. if you dont like it, there is always the option to simply avoid or block that content. 

btw when people say "this is so canon !! i love this *hc*!!" they mean to express that they like it not that they think its canon so stop throwing fucking ftis yous whiny as babys omggg.
