The Samsons are a set I bought about 3 years ago now. and I rekon I've been around them long enough to give a good opinion on them.
Price
The samsons are currently going for 40 dollars on amazon. which i think is pretty fair. but then I also consider other headphones that offer higher build quality or higher sound fidelity. headphones from companies like koss which higher fidelity sets like the KSC75s or better quality sets like Audio Technica for around or even cheaper than the Samsons. in which i think the samsons find a nice balance for its build and fidelity
Build
I have babied these headphones massively. so its no surprise that these have lasted so long. but since these are open back studio headphones this set leaving one spot is more likely than not. but for being an all plastic build. I still feel its strong enough to last studio use. let me testify and say these have not made any issues for me. I have rolled over the cable several times. and had the sets fall off the table multiple times and no sound quality problems crop up.
Sound
This has to be my biggest issue with the set. these are very much tuned for studio use. very upped high end and shouty to the point where its not a good set for casual use. I can also testify that I have more milage using these sets to mix rather than casually listen. using these to casually listen just hurts and some point. with a 10k peak in the response. its a no for me. but the spacing and detail peaks from that. the open back sense of the set brings out the clarity and spacing. but from that the sub suffers. and hey. most subs like suffering. ANYWAYSSSSS..... the sub is there for shure but mid sub details from like 100 to 200 are drawn out far more than the sub bass. the mids are really good with no real effect from the tuning. these are nice and balanced with good spacing. but again those mids lead into the higher end where it's just shouty. To the point where Fry vocals in hardcore tracks feel FAR to close. or pretty much any instrument that reaches into that 10k peak.
Overall
Are these high fidelity headphones? yes. are these audiophile headphones. No. for studio use. these get a huge thumbs up. but if you want to use this just for music. get ready for a instant headache. so if your willing to just save like. 20 more bucks just save up for koss portas and Yaxi earcups.
