The Worst Part of a Breakup

The worst part of a breakup is when you're driving home from their house,
and something doesn't feel right.
You breakdown sobbing and have to pullover so you can see
because you know it's over, you know that the end is near
but you can't say anything because it could just be your thoughts getting the best of you, like they always do
but it's different this time.

The worst part of a breakup is when they tell you they don't love you anymore
feeling as though you'd gotten your heart ripped out
feeling as though you want to sink through the floor and never be seen again
feeling as though you wish you didn't have emotions.
You've done this before, relationships in your past have come and gone
but it's different this time.

The worst part of a breakup is when it's been a few months and you know you shouldn't miss them, but you still do
the resentment starts to build up and you feel such a blend of emotions when you think of them that you have no clue how you feel anymore
you'll be fine for a while and then a thought or memory of them will come back to kick you in the gut
you want to forget them but you won't let yourself.
You keep remembering the times you were happy together, thinking of these memories used to bring you such joy
but it's different this time.

The worst part of a breakup is when you're finally over them.
You can finally hear their name, see their face, and feel virtually nothing.
It isn't hard to remember the happy memories and you don't feel anger or hatred or sadness when you talk about them.
But you know now that you don't miss them anymore, you don't love them anymore
it feels like you've broken the promise you kept to yourself and you can't help but miss missing them
it means it's finally truly over. It had been almost for a year now. Your anniversary approaches
but it's different this time.

The worst part of a breakup is getting back together.
