laufey - typical of me EP | music review #2

Very irrelevant and probably has no significant meaning but I noticed the word blue being mentioned in almost all the songs for some reason

ALSO I THINK ALL THE SONGS ARE CATCHY IN THEIR OWN WAY AND I 100% CAN SEE MYSELF LOOPING ALL OF THEM SO I DIDNT RLY MENTION ANYTHING ABT THEM BEING BOPS IN THE EXPLANATIONS HEHE

1. like the movies - I love laufey songs where the main instrument is piano instead of guitar it makes me feel like im in a warm cozy cafe with a fireplace on a cold winter day ☕️ this song in a way comforts me bc me makes me feel like im not the problem for having high standards for falling in love oops. Also I love how much of a lovergirl laufey is and it really shows in this song LIKE DAMN SHE REALLY KNOWS HER CLICHE ROMANCE MOVIE/BOOK SCENES!!

2. I wish you love - I think this song and someone new’s lyrics REALLY REALLY suit the title of this ep because it perfectly conveys self-awareness/self-analysing/self-blaming 🤣 typical of me is a perfect theme for these lyrics meow..  i am aware this song is actly by frank sinatra but i still applaud her selection of songs that fit the time ! also this song has such a good message; I prefer it a lot to more recent songs *cough* rap *cough* where artists are wishing the absolute WORST for someone whom they once loved 🙁 

3. Magnolia - I absolutely adore the message of this song. the lyrics are more of aspiration/adoration rather than envy/jealousy and I really love that… women uplifting other women let’s go ❤️ also a really interesting thing I noticed Is that even when the lyrics do imply negativity/envy ( “But I cannot compete with her” ) it moves into a DIMINISHED CHORD implying a sense of darkness… I might be overanalysing but I think this shows that she is AWARE of when she is straying away from the positive & mature message of the song…. very very mature message and lyrics right there.

4. Best friend - this song makes me want to have a best friend ITS SOOO CUTEEEE I CANT I CANT I CANT. 

5. Someone new - I find it rly beautiful that they managed to make the guitar sound like a harp 😭 it’s a really good instrumentation choice hehe (or maybe it is a harp, either way it’s still a really good choice) ALSOOOO UGH I FIND IT SO GENIUS THAT RIGHT AFTER THE PART WHERE SHE SAYS “my spiral begins, right on cue” THERES A LITTLE PIANO SCALE THAT ASCENDS THEN DESCENDS THAT GIVES THE EFFECT OF LIKE?? SPIRALLING 🤯 I also relate to the lyrics a lot sooo

6. James - this song is so relatable. And is one of the few non-self-blaming songs on this EP. Perfectly entails how it feels to fantasize about someone you don’t know yet and subsequently be majorly let down when their actual personality doesn’t live up to or resemble what you’ve imagined beforehand 🥸 not as memorable/catchy as the others that's why its down here LOL

7. Street by street - ik this is sampled from step by step so it’s not ranked very high cuz I’ve heard it too many times! I also think nobody can do it like Whitney 😅
