A Look Into "Milky Way & the Galaxy Girls"

Hi! Here's a collection of media about Milky Way and the Galaxy Girls.

Note 1: How come I'm finding out about this discontinued franchise in 2024? :c I found it on Pinterest and the art style caught my attention because I thought it was fanart of a celebrity "in Powerpuff Girls-style". Come to find out it's a super cute short-lived multimedia concept made by Lauren Faust (known primarily for spearheading My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, but Faust was also part of the PPG team and is married to PPG creator Craig McCracken, haha). Anyhoos, here's media dump of Milky Way and the Galaxy Girls AKA my hyperfocus this past week.

Brief Overview

Milky Way and the Galaxy Girls (MWatGG) is a discontinued project created by Lauren Faust, known for also creating the super popular revival series My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic (MLP:FiM). Galaxy Girls was meant to be a multimedia franchise consisting primarily of a doll line and an animated mini series.

"MWatGG features a humanized version of the Milky Way, a teenage girl who loves to traverse the galaxy, featuring other girls representing (other celestial bodies) in the solar system." (x)

The pitch for the cartoon was turned down by Hasbro in favor of assigning Faust to reviving the MLP series instead. Only promotional material and concept art ever made it out to the public, and a good chunk of it is lost to time, existing only in the annals of the Internet Archive Wayback Machine.

Faust has expressed a passionate interest in creating a franchise comprised of a diversity of feminine characters with strong personality and various hobbies so that young female audiences could see themselves represented in. If you're familiar with MLP:FiM, you might have notice these efforts carried over to the characters designed in the FiM series.
