I had trouble figuring out how to install snow leopard on my mac pro 2008 which didn't have any hdd or installation prior.
So what I did was I downloaded the bootable DVD file off the internet archive for snow leopard,
I used transmac, formatted the 16gb usb stick, then formatted the OS (iso file) right ontop of the USB stick.
Booted up the 2008 mac, held Alt/option then hit the install dvd option, went into disk utility formatted the fresh hdd so i was then able to install the OS under the hard drive.
Hope this works for yall!
It was a pain as theres not many guides on youtube or the internet documenting how to do this.

** gotta first update to 10.6.8 from 10.0 to use the official lion installer and get to lionn**
Also use the unarchiver to unarchive the lion installer and then it should give you option in new folder to show package contents and hit install.dmg. May gotta do that sometimes.
