Visual kei IS goofy, so why not just go for it?

That is a valid concern, though I would counter that if you carry yourself with confidence, people will notice and be much less likely to make a big deal out of it.
You could always start by just doing it at home, get a feel for it. As you get used to seeing yourself that way you'll feel more natural and your confidence will grow.
