Guess Who Made The Switch?

This is kinda a response to my previous blog post about my desperate need to ditch Windows and install Linux on my main machine.

And now I'm proud to say that as of today, August 17th, 2024, I finally made that switch.

Tbh I didn't expect to get to this point so fast, but after recieving a 2TB external HDD (to back up my data) on my birthday, I knew I had everything in place.

Now, about CSP, which I mentioned a lot in my previous post; I haven't found a way to get it to work on linux yet, but I've been very comfortable using Krita again, and I'll keep trying to find a way for CSP to work later. But for now, I've acceppted that I have CSP on my laptop, and Krita is capable of doing pretty much everything I could do in CSP anyway. It's just an art program at the end of the day, and it's not like my skills are gonna magically dissappear when I use another program.

Sice I only just installed Linux Mint earlier today, I don't have much to say about my experience, and will probably give an update in the future. But so far, I tested one of my games (a game I was conerned about working in linux) and to my surprise it ran pretty much perfectly! (shoutout Wobbledogs i LOVE that game).

I still have a LOT of programs I need to reinstall, but I'm taking things a bit slowly as to not stress myself out (my health hasnt been the best since I got COVID a few weeks ago and I think I have long COVID again). But I look forward to getting everything up and running before school starts.

I'm excited to see where this takes me, and I'm glad I finally just stopped stalling and exterminated the fuck out of Windows while I'm not incredibly busy with school and extracarriculars. My hope is that I wont need Windows too much, but if it's absolutely necissary for something, I'll either use a VM or use my laptop. But I did a lot of checking and research earlier and found that most, if not all, my major programs (besides CSP) should work just fine (and some even better) in linux.

So yeah, as of today, I finally "practiced what I preached" and switched to linux! While I picked Linux Mint for now, I have entertained the idea of doing some distro-hopping here and there in the future. But for now, I just wanted a super easy distro that works well out of the box with minimal hair pulling, since this is my main personal computer after all.
