A lot of Japanese flip phones, especially the more modern ones with Android 4-5 on them, are either sold out almost everywhere or the prices have been raised because they're getting more popular on platforms like TikTok and Instagram. Keep that in mind for your search as you may have to wait a while to get the one you want.

As for which phone to get, you have to consider what you want it for. Older flip phones that can only take photos, text, call, etc are a lot cheaper and easier to find, so if you only really want it for photos, you should be able to find one pretty easily. I'd recommend looking at subreddits like r/dumbphones and r/flipphones for advice and recommendations.

You can usually find them on Ebay for around £100-150. Non-Japanese brands like LG are often under £100.

Phones like the Aquos Sharp 601sh that have the button to automatically open the flip phone have a reputation for having bad quality hinges that break easily, even if you don't use the button. Aside from that, it's actually a great quality phone, though very high in demand.

Things to consider:

-Time and difficulty to set up. Android flip phones in particular need to be connected to a PC to sideload APKs. You can't install apps normally since the vast majority have android 5 or lower. I've seen one phone so far (the ALT MIVE Style folder) that runs a version of Android that's currently supported.

-Price & shipping costs.

-If you want to call/text, check if your simcard is compatible with the phone. If you're in the US, I've heard most networks don't work with Japanese phones, especially Verizon.

-Size. Larger flip phones, like the Samsung Folder 2, may be uncomfortable to hold and can be very clunky, but smaller flip phones have less storage space and smaller, more pixilated screens.

-Battery size/life.

-Storage. Most flip phones can only accept a 32gb SD card or smaller, and the internal storage is between 8 and 16, 32 if you're lucky. More modern flip phones can sometimes read 64gb SD cards though.
