While there were so many things I love/loved about living in Japan (and I actually have a sizeable chance of going back next year too), there's one thing in particular that drove me crazy every time it happened. To set the stage, it's dusk/evening, I'm out walking, probably got some music or a vid playing, and then I see this big building that's got tons of flashy signs and lights on it, there's tons of cars parked there, it's constantly advertised around the area, AND it says that it has games in there. So I'm expecting an arcade, so I go in...
And it's just rows and rows of pachinko, slot, and pachislot machines, with people sitting at their machines with their trays full of pachinko balls. So I immediately leave and head somewhere else. This has happened to me multiple times too, so I've grown to recognize "the signs" if somewhere is a pachinko parlor, usually the amount of flashy lights/signs they have, the name, and if it has something showing the price/value for each ball (like it'll say they have ¥1, ¥2, or ¥4 ones available). Thankfully there are actual arcades out and about, I remember finding 3/4 around where I stayed.
Something I DON'T miss about Japan

Tyler i guess
the actual arcades are either only crane stuff and games for young kids or either that gundam game or the jojo one that's similar the weird hybrid trading card video games that I don't get, then sometimes rhythm games or mahjong
there was one place that had classic fighting games and stuff in sapporo and it was under a train track on the bottom floor of an internet cafe and i don't know how the person who took me there even found it

yeah true, though admittedly I like rhythm games so if I see a taiko or bemani machine I'll 100% play it, just wish I could find ACTUAL arcade games sometimes instead of rows of crane machines
