Classic menswear and my weird obession with it (50s-80s clothing mostly)(suits !!! there are other casual clothes to be spoken of)

a few typos and mispelles here and there bc i typed this rapidly with NO proofreading we die like McCarthy over here

Classic stitch is basically the blueprint for what we call a 'suit', and after all those years, mens formal wear has especiallly evolved but me and my autistic brain has hyperfocused SPECIFICALLY on 20th century menswear, notably 50s to 80s, as the title says

Classic men style is basically taking inspiration from clothes that were popular in say...the 20s-to-60s. though some go further more, i prefer 50s clothing (cheap as shit brown sport coat my love)

some arbitrary rules that you may or may not follow (i will NOT stop wearing brigtly coloured socks FUCK YOU INETRNET)

- Brown loafers are seen as casual

- Bright socks are seen as unproffesional

- and god damn it. please wear a suit jacket that covers your ass. not for modesty reasons but because it balances the features. Most people wear suit jackets to small for them, which makes their torso look incredibly short compaerd to the rest of their body, which looks terrible but don't tell anyone i said that.

Im being stupid and combinig two fo my favorite special interests. Classic Menswear and Fellow Travelers the TV show.

Let's use Tim Laughlin as a reference, because my sense of fasion (along with my mtbi somehow lol) are a carbon copy of him. Also being a boy on a budget, Brown Sport coats (Sport coats basicaly meaning suit jackets that just arent' part of a suit.), dress shirt (mostly white and or cream), and a tie that complements but doesn't match exactly, and a pocket square that goes along (usually white or cream, ca nnever fail you), and brown/dark brown slacks, with loafers or oxfords or whatever.  white socks most of the time because theryet the ceapest. an example of a more casual classic look and something i go with almsot daily, along with a sweater vest/switch the te out for a bowtie :3

also. classic menswear is expenisive as FUCK!!!! i will probably update with more because its a lot tot say

HIGH WAISTED TROUSERS!!!!! Men having trousers to the hips just does not look right. Not only is having the trouser at the body’s natural waist feel more comfortable, it also just looks better and balances the body more! Low waisted for other things is alright, but when talking about classic menswear in terms of suits, high waisted is the way to go! Hell, high waisted trousers used to be the norm around the 50s-80s, hell even earlier than that! It’s only recently seen as emasculating to wear something high waisted, maybe it’s because some men perceive simply…having a waist and showing it to be a female/feminine thing? I still find it weird, as the waistline being higher looks much more classy.

For classiness, the color of shoe is important, not only color of clothing. Brown was considered the cheapes, aka the most casual of them all, which made them mostly delegated to events that weren’t too formal. (Though the opinion has changed now, I hope!). Depending on the formality of the situation, colours of shoes (we’ll use oxfords for this example!) were important, a black shoe was the embodiment of formal, same with material. A black leather Oxford would be more formal than a brown calfskin one.
