Came across a book earlier this year. "Gimme Indie Rock: 500 Essential American Underground Rock Albums 1981–1996", written by Andrew Earles, the title being named after a Sebadoh song. Pretty much self-explanatory, the book cited many influential, at times unspoken American indie bands. Page 133 mentioned a band named "Engine Kid", a trio that pays more than enough tribute to Slint if you listen close enough. Engine Kid is spearheaded by Greg Anderson of all people! That's right, Greg Anderson of Sunn O))). They have 3 studio releases under their belt: Astronaut (1993), Bear Catching Fish (1993), and Angel Wings (1995). Each of them being a generous helping of heavy, loud, noisy soundscapes that meddle between indie rock and metal. Tight stuff. Give them a go.
