why do wedding dress codes

why do wedding dress codes?? theyre a cute idea in theory, in theory, in practice they dont seem to work well. the reason it doesnt seem to work well is because they are always so hard to interpret if you dont go to these kind of themed events often to know what they are, like what the actual fuck is smart casual?? we need to start adding moodboards for dress codes cause what. and what makes it even worse is that i can never find a consistent answer as to what these kind of dress codes are supposed to look like because everyone ive seen break them down describes them so differently, its so confusing.

I've only ever been to weddings as a bridesmaid, but they all had colour themed dress codes? Like one was blue, the other was pink, etc..

But hardly anyone outside of the bridesmaids, mother/ father of the bride, grooms... All them - hardly anyone else follows the dress code??? Like c'mon what's the point...

Even more useless if it's a theme like smart casual, cause half the people won't know what that is??? + You would catch me dead before I wore smart casual to a wedding. It's all or nothing in this household!!!!

Plus, not everyone has the money to buy for a specific theme?? Or the time to go looking for an outfit they actually like or is in their size. Just let people wear whatever they want, as long as it's not casual. Like c'mon it's a special occasion

That being said, i think it looks nice when all the bridesmaids are dressed in matching

ive only ever been to one wedding as a guest and that was before i got really invested in gyaru fashion so i just wore this basic green dress and hated it cause it kept coming down at the top. now theyre just gonna have to deal with however i turn up cause i refuse to do casual, especially for a wedding. to make it even worse though, apparently the groom is wearing shorts... SHORTS TO HIS OWN WEDDING. and no, its not a beach wedding and its not in the peak of summer its in september...

Im sorry but the bride can do SO much better than him (idc if he's a great person or if im being shallow but I would NOT let that slide - slightly different at a beach wedding but SEPTEMBER???) + I feel you for the top part becuz I have these brightly coloured Camis that I love ans these crop tops I love yoo, but since I'm lowkey as flat as a chalkboard the straps ar too big...

its not even like he cant afford a suit hes rich as fuck, even my dad is going in a full suit and its not his wedding. also the dress was one of those with the loose necklines that kinda folds in on itself (i think its called a cowl neck but im not too sure) so i had to keep pulling it up all the time to not flash everyone.

i totally agree with you. if you want your special day to go as planned then you should make sure everyone is on the same page. not just your bridesmaids

no literally!! like the wedding is in about a month and the invites still havent come out yet, we only found out the dress code today while talking to the brides dad. and like, no shade to the bride and groom, but if you want to have a dress code you probably want the invites with that information on out quite a while before the actual wedding so people can start figuring out what to wear in accordance to the theme so they dont waste loads of money having to get a whole new outfit cause the first one didnt fit the theme.
