How to make a lollita headdress - STEP BY STEP TUTORIAL WITH PHOTOS

Hi everyone !! First of all I would love to thank everyone for all the support on my last tutorial !! I hope this one lives up to the first !!

In this tutorial I will teach you how to make a basic lollita headdress that you can wear and style with many cords and dresses ! (and to hopefully save you some $$$)

You will need:

-fabric

-Lace

-Ribbon

If you want to use the same fabric I use, you can purchase it here

Difficulty: 1.5/5

Time to make: 1.5 hours (with sewing machine)

For the first step, you want to make a pattern on a sheet of paper. I'm using pattern paper but you can also just do this on normal printer paper. Decide how big you want it and draw a rectangle. Then, round out the edges so you have a pattern similar to the one I made below.

Make sure you trace the pattern onto your fabric TWICE because you need two pieces.

**PRO TIP: Making a pattern is useful because if you want to make more headdresses, you can use the pattern as a reference so they're all the same shape/size.

here are my two pieces all done ! now we'll move onto hemming both of them so that they don't fray.

PRO TIP: when hemming, you can make little cuts into the rounded edges to help you fold it. (Example shown below)

On the left is a piece that's all pinned and ready, and on the right is a piece that's done with hemming

Now we will move onto lace. Decide how much lace you will need. The lace will need to wrap around the entire perimeter of the headdress so make sure you account for the corners.

When you decide you have enough, sew the ends of the lace together to make it a nice loop (shown below)

here is my lace all pinned onto the headdress.

Now that you have it pinned, use chalk (or anything you have to make marks on your fabric) to trace the outline of the middle rectangle of your headdress

remove the lace. This is your time to clean up your chalk lines a little and make them even and easy to follow. We will be applying ribbon in this mini rectangle.

The first row of ribbon should be applied like such:

A zigzag motion is the way to go.

We will do this zigzag twice. The results are shown below. Sew the ribbon down onto your headdress.

This step is optional but I recommend you do it. Apply lace to where your chalk was. This will create a nice even outline of ribbon. below is all my ribbon nicely sewn in

Now you're going to reapply your lace as before and sew it down.

congratulations ! The top of your headdress is now complete !!

The next steps will be preformed on the bottom piece.

Take a final long piece of ribbon. This is the ribbon that will go under your headdress and wrap under your chin. You have to make sure it's long enough because this is how your headdress will stay on your head. Mark the halfway point of the ribbon and the halfway point of your bottom piece and pin both down. Make sure both halfway points align and that the ribbon is perfectly straight.

Now you sew it onto your bottom piece.

Additionally, you can add 2 hairclip pieces on the ribbon if you want it to stay firmly locked in your hair. I don't own any so I didn't do this step but if you have spare hairclips I recommend doing this too. Use a very strong glue.

Above is the finished bottom piece. Now for the final step, sewing both top and bottom pieces together !!

PRO TIP: make sure your lace and ribbon are a fair distance away from where you're attaching both layers. You don't want lace getting caught on things.

Here is my headdress after the final step.

If you made it this far than congrats on your finished headdress !! I hope this tutorial was helpful !

And again a really big thank you to the support I've gotten on my last tutorial and other blog posts !

bye !!(๑>؂•̀๑)
