Over the past 7 days, my friends and I have watched 7 of the worst rated films on letterboxd to see if they were really as bad as people say they were. We started with Weekend At Bernie's 2 (rated 2.5/5), and ended at the appropriately titled "Disaster Movie" (rated 1.1/5). I have taken the opportunity to write short reviews of each one of these films I've watched.
Weekend at Bernie's 2 (1993)
This film started off really slow in pacing, but I feel like it really caught it's footing halfway through. I wasn't sure how they would take the concept of the first film and expand upon it for a sequel, but I thought the idea of Bernie only coming to life when music played to be a funny idea.
Overall, this film was not as good as the original, but not as bad as people have said it was.
7/10
Tony Hawk in Boom Boom Sabotage (2006)
Tony Hawk in Boom Boom Sabotage is probably the most incoherent film I've watched this year. The plot is unable to contain itself, much like urinary incontinence. Half of the time I had trouble following along with the plot, and just didn't find it very interesting to begin with.
2/10
Cool Cat Saves The Kids (2015)
Somehow this was better than Tony Hawk in Boom Boom Sabotage and I don't know how that's possible but that's not saying much
Cool Cat Saves The Kids is just three different short films by Derek Savage composed into one feature length film and it often struggles to find it's footing. The plot jumps around so much I couldn't figure out where Cool Cat actually saved kids and where it was just pointless filler.
3/10
Super Mario Bros. (1993)
Pretty decent movie on it's own, not a good Mario movie. They also predicted 9/11 so that automatically bumps this up above Cool Cat.
6/10
It's Pat: The Movie (1994)
I gave up on trying to find this film so I chose to just skip it instead.
Birdemic: Shock and Terror (2010)
This film took 40 fucking minutes for the actual plot to start out of a 1hr30min movie.
When you're not waiting to see some of the worst visual effects of all time, you're instead watching one of the slowest films to ever be created with awful writing, abysmal mixing, and characters more two-dimensional than Paper Mario.
Going into this film, I was hoping this would be funny bad, but it ended up being "incredibly boring and dull" bad. Except for the parts when the birds showed up on screen because it was funny seeing the horrible special effects come out of it.
2/10
Disaster Movie (2008)
How anyone can make a film more boring than Birdemic with a way higher budget than it is absolutely beyond me. At least Birdemic had a plot, this film just felt like pointless reference after reference. In its attempt to be topical, this film has just dated itself more and more and feels like a spit in the face of parody films.
1/10
This week really surprised me in the quality changes. I expected all of it to be bad, but I did find some of the films to be surprisingly good. Most of it was pretty shit, but we found some diamonds in the rough.
Final Ranking (Best 2 Worst)
1. Weekend at Bernie's 2 (7/10)
2. Super Mario Bros. (6/10)
3. Cool Cat Saves The Kids (3/10)
4. Tony Hawk in Boom Boom Sabotage (2/10)
5. Birdemic: Shock and Terror (2/10)
6. Disaster Movie (1/10)
