monster high rant

sorry in advance if it seems like im angry about nothing but i just have to get this off of my chest. also im going to be talking about generation 1 and generation 3 primarily because i stopped paying attention to monster high during generation 2 and i really dont care about them much. 

i am tired of people mindlessly hating or criticizing g3 for (in my opinion) not very good reasons. to tell the truth, i am a hard g1 stan and lover since thats what i grew up with. the thing that i have an issue with is people complaining and claiming that g3 is “ruining their childhood” or “going woke”, etc. some people wish that they just made new characters and an entirely new storyline which i understand but the point of new generations and/or reboots is to have a new look and interpretation on the franchise, which may or may not INCLUDE the original characters and their ips. 

there is nothing about g3 that takes away or removes from g1 IN MY OPINION. it is a new interpretation and design to our classic ghouls and mansters. now i will say my biggest gripes with g3 is due to the lack of more alternative fashions and the doll faceup designs as well as the 3d character models in the nickelodeon show. but comparatively, g3 is giving us alot more that we didnt have or was missing in g1. theres better body diversity (for the dolls, and i know its not perfect either), there is way better lgbtq+ representation especially with frankie being nonbinary this time around that we lost or wasnt allowed to be shown due to mattel and garret sander having different views (ahem mattel im looking at you “its not the right time”), more cultural competency and accuracy since mattel and the designers would absolutely fumble with some doll designs and frequent stereotypes of some cultures (the background music when skelita or jinafire talks in scaris kills me everytime i hear it). 

as much as everyone else who loves g1 to death, i wish mattel would reprise it and bring back webisodes, movies, or more g1 doll releases but realistically i know thats not going to happen. i dislike mattel as much as other people do, but they are taking the franchise into another direction and fitting it into the political and social landscape of the 2020s rather than keep making the same decisions as in the 2010s. 

however, this does not mean that g1 is left to die or doesnt even exist anymore. there are still hundreds of thousands of dolls on the secondhand market, the monster high youtube channel still has all the webisodes up, there are flash game sites to play the flash games, the wii and nds games are around to play, and the movies are easy to find and watch to get that experience. not to mention that mattel still does g1 doll releases (in a way) with skullectors, booriginal creeproductions and holiday dolls.
