I know when a failed film adaptations based on a video games panned by critics and audiences to drag down bland, mundane, and especially horrific juvenile writing in any of these films without any independent motivation feel and has no respect n' understanding of the source material like Paul Anderson's Resident Evil, few Mortal Kombat films, House of the Dead, Ratchet and Clank '16, Sony's Angry Birds Movie, and especially Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li, these films mocks it's own masterpieces and treating it like crap, and which we're gonna discuss the next biggest failures on the new video game film adaptation and that is the Eli Roth's Borderlands... i'm not gonna go over spoilers since not everyone seen this movie including myself.
I've actually never played Borderlands before in my life, i mean it seems like a dystopian role-playing video game it takes place in a setting of a post-apocalyptic wasteland and a twisted sense of humor creates a world that's both dangerous and bizarre, but it does feel just like Halo and a lot of fun and experience to it with a great storyline too, that video game got that right! But for the film version... ugh... it's just another Guardians of the Galaxy rip-off... except this is The Last Airbender of Borderlands, it's like somebody in a Hollywood would hate for the film to follow up the story and it's characters to a dynamic arc and they were written by a drunk person who doesn't know how to make a movie anymore like they used to or they just don't care, for what i heard of this movie it's completely insufferable, the A-list actors are the same as ever for the last decade so it's getting tiring, the story writing are bland and lazy, that they couldn't capture the Borderlands or even Halo feel, i know the setting and the costume clicks with the film but in the terms of a direction and writing does not follow the source at all, it's just loud, crazy, bad juvenile jokes and too much VFX and CGI poured in like they have a fetish to make the special effects look like video game cutscenes or any MCU movies or worse... Michael Bay's Transformers movies which how it was done wrong, PLUS why is this movie PG-13??? the game was M-rated and they couldn't go all-out making it R-Rated like they're afraid to make it too violence and grimy, it's a bare minimum to a mature rated masterpiece, as if it's the next Paul Anderson's Alien vs. Predator, i wouldn't like it as much but it could've liked it if it could've been a better film adaptation...
Now let's talk about the characters... the whole characters in this movie ARE CONFUSING AND ANNOYING... i mean... they couldn't get the other real actors to cast the role for the character so we're just left with the same A/B-List actors from previous successful movies, it's been an ongoing cliché in Hollywood, nothing against these actors i mean... they're good actors, it's just... they don't fit the roles in the movie which why it's confusing characters since they older as we seen the trailers, as i see in the games they look younger and independent and the voice acting is excellent and have creative passion, in the movie... they just look and feel off and not themselves, Roland felt short, they aged up Dr. Tannis way too old, Claptrap isn't sound like Claptrap at all (but i heard the original actor for Claptrap has broke contract with Borderlands a few years ago and we're left with this instead), and Tiny Tina is just... WHY??? Just... I don't see them as their own characters at all, i see them as parodies of themselves like this film is a parody in such an annoying degree, they just ruined the characters and it's clear to me that they don't respect the characters, the story, the direction and the game itself cuz this isn't Borderlands at all, it should've been a Guardians of the Galaxy parody from Youtube that people kept call them Elderlands or Boomerlands, whatever... with a big budget spent on the film is it just doesn't click with me in anyway...
Overall... i wouldn't recommend watching this movie to any diehard Borderlands fans or anyone who plays the game, don't waste your money on this movie, unfortunately i hope this movie flops so hard and so fast it's a massive disappointment to Borderlands and the movie should've never existed... i know Knuckles (or Wade) show, Kung Fu Panda 4 and the Garfield movie doesn't do it for me either and have not seen them, and this movie is likely has the same snag and i hope i would never watch this movie ever... At least Godzilla Minus One works perfectly for me... so if you want to watch a movie that's similar to Guardians of the Galaxy or whatever, then go watch either James Gunn's The Suicide Squad, Galaxy Quest, Rogue One, Zombieland, The Fifth Element, or Baby Driver, they're better films than this abysmal lackluster film, i'm sorry it didn't work for y'all neither does the hardcore Borderlands fan, but eh... there are other film adaptation based on video games that are successful you should enjoy like Sonic The Hedgehog, Mortal Kombat '21, Detective Pikachu and Illumination's Super Mario Bros. Movie, i know they're not perfect but they're still worth a watch! and i hope they don't fuck up the third Sonic movie...
Now which leaves us here, i'mma go finish the Dreamcast Collab now.
