[ daily recap ] MEGITSUNE !!!!

today's songs of the day are the 2024 (or budokan) version of megitsune & moametal's cover of headbangya!! with that out of the way (though I'll probably have difficulty writing because I want to headbang) I'll now run you all through my thoughts as of late! they're not really deep- it is a friday night, after all.

1. references in babymetal songs to traditionally japanese ones

> the beginning of 'megitsune', specifically the budokan version (which is the best one), has su-metal singing 'き-つ-ね、き-つ-ね', with one mora (japanese syllable) per beat. I didn't think much of it until I started listening a bit more to traditional japanese music; a very very famous song by the name of 'sakura sakura' has the same rhythm in the beginning- it starts with 'さ-く-ら、さ-く-ら'. there's probably some deeper meaning to that, seeing as 'megitsune' is about how being a woman is difficult because we're expected to be perfect partners & wives & not our own people, & 'sakura sakura' as a very traditional song may have fed into those stereotypes somehow. but I'm not about to look into it, because I'm just hanging out right now. 

> the lyrics '踊るあほにみるあほ、同じあほなりゃ踊らんや?' from the awa odori dance (I love its song by the way; I particularly love the flute, which can be found in this video. it's addictive, like most japanese traditional music is.) feature in babymetal's 'METALI!!'; in their case, the lyrics are '踊るあほに見るあほ、同じあほなりゃ踊りんちゃい！' - for those who don't speak japanese, the lines from both basically mean "you're all fools watching us dancing fools, if you'll be a fool anyway why not dance?", which I think is super fun & totally fitting for a summer matsuri song (I believe the videos from this year's awa odori are starting to come out, & I can't wait to watch them! the performances are seriously so enchanting.)

1. senior jacket name !!!! (sorry, I can't do anything to fix the numbers.)

okay, so some time ago I posted about how I loved the idea of using 'ayakchana' on my senior jacket (the design of which I honestly find to be a little boring & even ugly, so I'll at least be shibori-dyeing on its white sleeves once I get it). it turns out that the whole siberia thing was a bit of a phase, because now I'm back in the japan-swing of things I'm even more obsessed than I ever was with siberia & I feel even more alive for it. so sorry to all of my siberia fans. (sidenote, otamay is leaving otyken & that makes me so sad! she says she pretty much felt driven out because she wasn't appreciated, which is so disappointing to hear, because I thought that she was great.) because my siberia hyperfixation waned, & I wasn't so keen on 'ayakchana' anymore- especially because there were hardly any sources on what it actually meant beyond the caption of one youtube video- I ended up deciding, almost by accident, on another name.

that name is 'はんなり'! I'll just copy & paste its meaning below, because I don't feel like explaining it myself:

"It is used to describe a person who is graceful, natural, and self-paced. It also depicts a calm and gorgeous appearance, and elegant, bright and cheerful behavior.  It’s like an onomatopoeic description of the ambience of Kyoto. Hannari literally means “flower”(hana-nari or hana-ari)."

I thought that this was wonderful because 1. maiko-san reference?!?!?!!?!?! 2. it gives me the same impression as when parents choose specific kanji for their childrens' names so that they grow up to show certain characteristics (such as  '敏子' ('toshiko'), in which the specific character '敏' refers to cleverness or agility; it is hoped that the child will be mentally sharp & clear- the meaning is totally different for the same name, 寿子, written with different characters- in this case, the '寿' refers to longevity; it is hoped that the child will live a long life.)- I hope that it will help me to (remember to) embody elegance, cheeriness, & beauty. 

yes, I did have it written in hiragana when I went to hand the note into my school's admin office. yes, I got questioned about it. if that doesn't end up working I'll use "han'nari" instead, which would still sound & look awesome- but I figured that it was at least worth a shot. Also I spoke to my japanese teacher about it & she said that I totally should & that it'd be an awesome idea. So like, doing this for her really. shoutout to my japanese teacher. our lesson today got cancelled due to an assembly (sidenote, I got an award???? our year advisors nominated two people from each year to receive it, so I am of course very honoured & whatnot, but it struck me as quite random) & the subsequent extension of lunch, which didn't end until the end of what would've been our japanese lesson. I miss her :,c

*copies this from my bulletins into my blog section* gosh. writing blog posts is so easy. why don't I do it more often. 

kidding, I'll not do that to you. it turns out that the book I haphazardly picked up when I got overstimulated & ran off in a department store is actually very good & I am really, sincerely enjoying it, which I wasn't expecting in the slightest ! I looked at the cover & went Oh whatever. It looks like cheap booktok garbage. but I picked it up anyway just for the hell of it (& because otherwise I'd have nothing to show for storming off), & it turns out that I actually have a hard time putting it down because the characters are actually very entertaining to read about- they lead interesting lives, & the author's writing style is quite satisfying. at no point so far have I said "this part's gone on too long" or "who needs this much detail about a scene?"- it's all very focused on the characters & the people in their surroundings. 

additionally, it's based on a true story, so I looked up said characters online & AHHHH !!!!!!!!!!! *end of sentence*. I'm going to save all of the juicy details for the blog post, because I'll probably do a review of some sort once I'm done, but I was seriously so surprised & overjoyed to see that the people I was reading about were real (has never read an autobiography <- /j). they seemed so beautiful & happy! I feel as if I actually knew them.

I'm quite excited for the weekend! really I'm just glad that the school week is over- there's been so much drama this week! next week is the snow trip of my year group, & I'm proud to announce that every single person who bothers me (alongside some other people who are fine) is going on this trip, which means that I'll have a whole week's worth of a break from them !!!! & truly I am so excited !!!! anybody who's still in high school understands how much of an absolute blessing that is. I'm also going to simply enjoy my time off over the next two days- I hope to continue writing my script for the japanese presentation festival, do some bio homework, & (hopefully) take a few naps.
