im new to electric guitar (i have a lyx pro and an amp) and i dont really know where to start with learning the basics. should i learn a song first or try to memorize chords?? any free videos or tutorials are very much appreciated

I don't play the guitar but I play the piano so I can give an advice for getting into music sheets etc. overall, learning the chords will improve your understanding of the theory and you can get more and more into it as you improvise pieces yourself (it's very fun and expressive too!). It's also good to play songs that you love in order to enjoy your experience, however when something is higher than your level it can be pretty devestating and ruin your motivation (don't ask me how I know :c ) so I would say do both but be cautious of the level of the songs you choose and always remain conscious of what you play so that you have a stronger basis. thank you so much i genuinely appreciate all the advice !! i did piano for a short time when i was younger but sheet music is a doozy for me (guess i have to stick to chords and tabs lol) hopefully i can learn some easier songs soon :3
