yapping about games: How underrated Final Fantasy 9 is

If you haven't played the game, if you have a ps2 or ps4 or I think it's also available on PC?- whatever, if you're able to play the game, PLAY IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! or if you're not able to play it yourself, watch a play through of it on YouTube (I personally recommend snapcube, she's really funny and she does INSANELY good voice acting for the characters!!!).

anyways, this blog contains spoilers for the entirety of FFIX, so beware!!

So, final fantasy 9. Where do I even start with how much I love this game? All of the characters, even the villains who are absolutely TERRIBLE people are so entertaining, and all feel so real. Like Kuja, who is the main antagonist of the entire game, and literally manipulated and killed queen brahne, as well as destroy Alexandria, AND THE ENTIRETY OF TERRA and is just an absolute villain is my favourite final fantasy character, and one of my top favourite characters ever. It's not because he's a good person, oh hell NO, he is an awful villain, and caused so much chaos and destruction, but GODDAMMIT I fucking cried when he died. I'm gonna have to make an entire separate blog post just about Kuja because he deserves it, so I'll move on.

The story of FFIX is something I have to talk about as well. It deals with topics of life and death, and dealing with the fact that everyone has to die, in such unique and interesting ways. Like Vivi, who upon learning that he has only less than a year before he stops is scared, of course, but instead of turning his fear into anger and doing anything, he spends his time traveling with his friends, because that's what makes him happy. And if he only has so much time to live, of course he'd want to spend it with the people he cares about. But on the contrary, there's Kuja (again), who upon learning his life has a limit goes crazy. He literally BLOWS UP TERRA when Garland reveals he's set to die. He doesn't want to die knowing the world will continue on without him, no, he wants to bring the world down with him. The fact these 2 characters are dealing with a similar issue, yet how different they approach that same issue is just MWA perfect storytelling. Not to mention that the writing is SO FUCKING GOOD.

there are SO MANY TIMES that I was on the verge of tears just by the goddamn writing of this game. The entire ending where Zidane goes back to save Kuja EVEN THOUGH HE'S THE MAIN VILLAIN IS JUST-

my words cannot express how amazing this game is.

And all of this amazing character development and story is so underrated. Like, whenever I tell someone I like final fantasy, it's ALWAYS "oh the game with Sephiroth?" and NEVER "oh the game with Kuja?" I HATE ITTTTTTT

it makes me so upset that such an emotional MASTERPIECE of a game is so underrated.

Like, don't get me wrong, Final Fantasy 7 is an amazing game in it's own ways, but compared to the storytelling of FF9.... I'm gonna be honest, I prefer FF9 more. More people should play FF9, c'mon people!

I don't know why it's so underrated, in my opinion, it's the best final fantasy game! (I've only watched ff9 and ff7, so don't blast me for this. I do plan to watch the other games tho)

I can see why FF7 is more popular, though. It came out in 1997 (I think), and was a 35 game when mainly RPG games were out, the story too is revolutionary in it's own way.

I am not saying I don't like FF7, I just think that FF9 deserves just as much, if not more praise than FF7.

anyways thanks for listening to my Ted talk, there is a 99.99999999% chance that my next blog is going to be about Kuja.
