Ok so basically if you know me from like my Tiktok or the beginning of me using Spacehey, I used to have a VERY pink blog lol, I'm not even kidding but like i switched to the current theme I have now, which I'm also going to change again and so many people have said they missed my old pink theme and while I appreciate that, I'm also constantly evolving and switching through aesthetics, it's natural as people that we get bored of certain things.
What I'm trying to say is that society has normalized having just one aesthetic and sticking to that which is so unnatural and just not true?? Like I feel like as a girl who's into Y2k and Mcbling and I post my outfits on Tiktok, sometimes I might want to dress like a rockstar gf or coquette but people just expect to see that one niche everytime they click on your Tiktok account.
Also people will try to deny you or say you're not into an aesthetic as much as them just because you don't want to always dress that style or listen to artists who are known for that aesthetic, you can love that aesthetic with your whole heart while still being versatile. And I actually think it's important to not stick to one style, if your whole closet is one style, 10 years later, you come back and see your outfits and you think "what the fuck was I thinking? Now I have no money to spend for my current aesthetic."
I have so many different aesthetics and like I always change my blog and thats one thing I like about myself is that people can come to my spacehey every like three months and find an entirely different aesthetic, I love being versatile and showing my interests through the way I create my page.
Final thing I want to say is that if you're a teen especially like 13/14 or even an older teen, sometimes it's not always the smartest idea to style your room a certain color or way because once you grow out of that theme, you're going to sit in your room and wonder why you just ruined your entire bedroom lol and to repaint and then sell everything you used to design your room is just a whole other story and it's kinda made me glad that I've never designed my room even with the phases I went through like "indie kid", "grunge", etc etc. Just don't design your room until you're 1000% sure this is the aesthetic you're going to keep to for a long time.
But yeah those are just my thoughts lol, feel free to comment your own opinion !!

Yeah, aesthetics flatten your personality to something that is easily marketed and catered to a specific audience. Human beings can't just like one thing and by creating that lie by only doing things that fit in a certain aesthetic you need to change your aesthetic every couple of months.
Aesthetics are definitely created to cater an online algorithm and to sell more stuff. Whenever you like something else you need to buy all new outfits and re-decorate you room (if not an entire house). So stores make a lot of money based of aesthetics.
But it's sold like having just once aesthetic is the way you need to live. So if you don't buy into the aesthetic life, you are called 'fake' and thrown out.
Have you ever seen a cabinet filled with mugs that all look identical, or all fit the same style? I haven't! It's always a mismatch of colors, patterns and sizes. To think that your entire life needs to fit into one aesthetic and style is unrealistic, because not even our mugs are able to fit that standard.

you definitely worded this better than me LOL pretty much took the words out of my mouth, ur literally so right. i even saw this lady on tiktok who had an entirely pink kitchen and that's great for her tbh but like if i was to do that i'd be regretting it so bad in a week even though i love pink lmao

Industrialisation and its consequences... Personalities are being industrialised and marketed to now. I wouldn't be surprised if half of these aesthetics were designed in a cubicle by a advertising salaryman.

THIS!!!
Finding an aesthetic used to (and sometimes still does) stress me out so much because I love all types of subcultures and fashion but I could not choose one at all which made me feel like a poser and like I didn’t have an identity. One of my ex friends was so obsessed with aesthetics, she once begged me to have a picture I got from a con because “it fit her room aesthetic more than mine”. She also told me that aesthetic is everything, and would constantly say that my aesthetic is this and not this and if I wanted to be cutesy and get cutesy stuff she would accuse me of copying her and being obsessed with her.
It makes no sense to me that people have to choose one aesthetic to base their whole personality upon. I have been trying to repeat to myself that my aesthetic is whatever I like. I do get very stressed out when in my room because it doesn’t have a color scheme yet and I think about what ex friend told me that my room is basically aimless but I remind myself that if I continue to fill my room with things that I like and clothes I like I will find my aesthetic—but I think even that mentally isn’t good.
I don’t need “an aesthetic”. I am a human being, I can’t be put in a box. Humans are creative and contradictory in everything we do and that’s okay. I’ve been feeling so pressured to find my “true aesthetic” which I think is my way of trying to figure out my sense of self which I think is something that high functioning neurodivergent people do hyperfixate on due to years of masking.
But the whole thing with aesthetics has gone too far. I knew shit hit the fan when the “clean girl aesthetic” came out. Like what the fuck is that? And anything that ends with “core” pisses me off.
We are so much more than clothing and wall decor, and trying to commodify ourselves into characters only kills us.

real and thank u. aesthetics are handy for when you wanna find a style of clothes or smthn but I definitely can't box myself in

Ofc !! AND NO LITERALLY, aesthetics are cool when you need to find something specific but society makes it seem like we have to box ourselves into one thing when that's not true

to me aesthetics feel like subcultures with no culture, they're entire communities focused entirely on how you look with nothing of substance holding it together.

I think defining each style by some specific name is a problem too. While it is good to have labels for certain styles for ease of access, it can quickly become excessive. The label of 'Coquette' is one I don't have much of a problem with, it's simple, has a history, and is widely recognizable. However, splitting it off into things like 'dark coquette', 'gloomy coquette' or 'summer coquette' feels completely pointless to me. The whole purpose of styles and aesthetics is to assign your own meanings and interpretation to them. You combine the aesthetic with things you enjoy. If we label every single aesthetic ever, then they lose their malleability and potential and open the doors for gatekeepers.
People have tried really hard to label my style, saying I'm things like 'dark coquette twee with a hint of yami kawaii' but it's all futile. I'm me, you're you, and the name of your designated aesthetic isn't going to be carved into your bones for archeologists to find.

Of course, the most natural thing for humans is change. It's even nice for me to see how the people I meet, change their style according to their emotions, the changes that occur in their lives, their desires and even their thoughts. I have not known, to this day, anyone who has not changed a single aspect of their personality, no matter how strong they are with their personality

Not gonna lie... I was sucked into this type of things when I was me 4 years ago. I developed an insane shopping addiction after that. But now I dress how ever I want now lmao, Im just happy that I never threw away my clothes that were are considered as "meh this doesnt fit the aesthetic" back then.

i think aesthetics are good for shops as in like “greenish things to the left!!” “pink girly thingies to the right!!” or something so you know where to look when your looking for a specific vibe but lately most people (online specifically) just think you gotta pick and choose one like no, only rich influencers can afford that and have a bland enough personality to stick with it

We as a society should normalize blending different aesthetics to create one big aesthetic with a bunch of different things that perfectly suits the person that made it instead of forcing people to only stick to one at a time because where's the fun in that

i change my aesthetic every month. last month i was a string lover and wheel hater, now i'm the #1 enthusiast of Peter Griffin X Lapis Lazuli. i even had an aesthetic of my alter ego: Gluctose Nuctose, a hero engendered by High Fructose: The Mother Slime from the planet Fructonia.
