Review 14: Deep Rock Galactic

What is DRG?

DRG or Deep Rock Galactic is a co-op FPS where you and three other Dwarves can Mine, Drink and Kill bugs. Deep Rock gives you many different missions to pick from. Mining Expedition, Egg Hunt, On-site Refining, Salvage Operation, Point Extraction, Escort Duty, Elimination, Industrial Sabotage and Deep Scan. With an extra side objective you can do for more money. While it might seem boring just doing the same mission over and over and over again Deep Rock adds two different types of special mutators randomly to each mission. The first type being Warnings that make the mission harder, Example: Lethal Enemies - Melee damage from all enemies hurts a lot more than usual. With the other type being anomalies which can help you during a mission, Example: Gold Rush - We’re rich! The mission area is full of extra rich gold veins. With these, random events, different biomes, procedurally-generated caves and a 100% destructible environment every mission will be completely different then the last. The most important part of the game is the Space Rig, being the hub world for the game you can: change classes, gain cosmetics, kick some barrels and most importantly drink at The Abyss Bar. Speaking of classes Deep Rock was perfectly made where each class will be needed for a mission. For classes you have: Gunner - Big guns but slow movement, Scout - Small guns but tons of mobility, Engineer - Platforms and Turrets and finally Driller - Drills and C4 (mostly used for team kills). While you can run a mission with all Scouts it's better and quicker to have one of each class to help each other.

What brought me to DRG?

Friend requested to play it when it was on sale and I really enjoyed the randomly generated missions.

Where can you play it?

Steam

Would I recommend it?

Yes, while you can play solo where you are given an AI inorder to help you during your missions Deep Rock has a great community where you can go in for a multiplayer mission by yourself and soon three dwarves will be transported to help you on the mission. For a co-op shooter I usually expect the community to be more negative but Deep Rock really surprised me when playing an open game. So go to the bar, grab yourself a Glyphid Slammer, go on a mission and Rock and Stone miners.

10/10
