We, as humans, create. We create until we die.
If you only consume, ¿are you even present? ¿Are you aware of who you are?
I couldn't imagine myself not thinking about creating. I cannot imagine a life without writing or drawing or singing or whatever. If I ever could improve anything about myself, it would be my ability to create, to show what I have done.
There is nothing that I despise more than copying, and don't you dare confuse copying someone with being inspirated by them. The copy doesn't imply work or though behind it. Now, when you think of inspiration, you think of a process where we analyze the work and thought. In that process, we respect the other's creation, we never think of it as a soulless object, that exists as a product, and we don't consider the process behind its creation.
The mainstream has always infected others with Un creativity, but at certain point, the amount of people copying the work weren't as big as the others who were inspired by it. That gave a way for others to create what their inspiration made them think and then elaborate more.
But now, as a consequence of our modern society, the consumism is part of the youth. Carved into their brains, they'll grow up thinking that, consuming gifts them a "place" a somewhere to belong in the future.
And no, gen z isn't the culprit (or at least not completely) of what is happening around them. I blame previous generations who see young people as nothing but consumers. The adults will always see the younger as some sort of child, uncapable of think by itself.
I kind of blame everyone for this. I don't see a victim, because there isn't such thing.
Stop trying to seek a culprit, we all are.
Just, disappear for a day or two (not literally), with nothing but your thoughts. No music, social media, or anything that distracts you from your brain. Just sit and explore what you have inside. Even if you're ashamed of it, that's the difficulty of ourselves. I get sick of me, of my body and thoughts, but I will never scape from them, so, ¿why not just listen to them and see what they hide behind them?
Don't be alone with them for a long time, because they might make you go crazy. There is nothing good in boredom. Just find the perfect point where you can admire but not be consumed by it.
DISCLAIMER: This is just an opinion I made while being bored, I don't think there's much deepness behind it.

As an award winning artist I really actually disagree. Some people are not creative but they still have value. For example, if I am spending my time working on my collection for the Contemporary Art Center, and you are making music or whatever the heck you feel is important enough to power this opinion, then who is making the bread? Who is fixing the toilet? who is flying the plane? And even if they can rear a feild of wheat in delicous bread, or keep hundred of people safely hurtling thru the air, they are worthless to you?
I guess we just aren't the same type of artist.
You're actually so right. I'll think ab it and then post another blog entry. THANKS
