oh my goodness I could go on for days and days and days abt them.
first off, their history as groundswell. even tho they only had one album before the regroup (a wave of popular feeling), they are still one of my favs. i don't really know much about them because there isn't really much information about them on the internet sadly. anyways tho, i love the sound they had then, almost similar to pearl jam. their song eddie will forever hold a place in my heart omfggg. in the sand, weatherman and chronic are also so good oml.ย
then, their first album after the regroup; the eponymous album: three days grace. now their most popular songs from the album are the obvious, i hate everything about you, along with home and just like you. while it is obvious why those songs became so popular, with their undeniable catchiness, and their lyrics, I wish some of the other songs in the album had become just as popular. my personal favs from this album are take me under, wake up, scared, and now or never (ik thats like half the album lol)
next, we have their second album, one-x. a lot of those songs were written while adam was in rehab, so as you can imagine, they are overflowing with emotion, and the lyrics are very raw. since the first time i heard never too late, its been one of my favorite songs. every time i watch the music video i literally sob, because as much of a banger as the song is, the lyrics are so heartbreaking, and relatable. the song got me through a lot, and is such a savior to me. my favs from this album are never too late, on my own, let it die, and get out alive
after that was their third album, life starts now. i love every single album from them, but with that being said, this is definitely my favorite. i cant even begin to say how much i love each of these songs. each one is so unique and perfect, with amazing vocals and lyrics, and the music oml. every chorus is just earth-shattering. last to know hit so close to home, i first heard it the day my year long relationship ended (they left me for someone else), and it was what i needed to get through it. its just very sad, and melancholy, with that beautiful piano in the background, and those lyrics my god. this song single-handedly put me back together. every song from this album is my favorite tbh. but if i had to pick, it would be last to know, no more, life starts now, and world so cold.
between the third and fourth album, they dropped a cover of the chain by fleetwood mac on the lost in you ep. its just so good, chilling even.ย honorable mention for that lol
fourth album, transit of venus. gosh this album is such a ride. from give in to me to anonymous. its just incredible. a song that rly resonates with me from it is misery loves my company. this song to me has always been being stronger. stronger than your pain, your issues, your fear. not needing someone else, because you have yourself, and you can get through it on your own. my favs from this album are misery loves my company, the high road, broken glass, and unbreakable heart.
now after that album came a huge change for the band: adam leaving. it caused a lot of backlash from fans for sure. he was replaced by bassist brad walst's brother, matt walst, formerly of the band my darkest days. adam gontier goes onto start a new supergroup, saint asonia, with mike mushok of stain'd.
the first album released after the change was human. now human was a turning point for the band, given their new lead singer, their sound sorta evolved, accommodating to matt's different voice. in my opinion, this is the best album of matt era three days grace. the song that stands out to me most is fallen angel. just by listening to it you'll hear the weight of the lyrics. the part of the song that really sticks out to me is when its saying that they tried so hard to save this person, but weren't able to, and that they wot let that happen again; they'll save them this time. its very moving. my favs from this album are fallen angel, tell me why, the end is not the answer, and nothing's fair in love and war. honorable mention for painkiller tho, such a banger, and addresses such a real problem; the battle of an addiction.
okay, so this cover is so good it deserves its own little paragraph: you dont get me high anymore (phantogram cover). his voice just goes so well with this song, and the guitar + drums combined with his voice in the chorus? so fucking good i cant eveennnn omgshhh
anyways, next album, the outsider. this is their 6th album. the most popular song from this album is the mountain, tho im not rly a big fan of it, i like the lyrics. the song that has always stood out to me in this album is villain im not. it talks about how this person takes so much from a loved one, allowing themself to become a punching bag for this person, letting them take out all their emotions on them. they just take the abuse, and allow the person to, well, make them "the villain im not". my favs from this album are nothing to lose but you, infra red, villain im not, and right left wrong. also, honorable mention for nothing to lose but you, because wow. in the perspective of someone who has nothing left this person, they are afraid of losing them because they are so incredibly important to them, and they literally saved them from themself. hence the lyric "you're the reason im still alive".
another little paragraph for a cover: somebody i used to know (gotye & kimbra cover). its just such a nice twist on an already incredible song, definitely one of my fav songs from matt era three days grace.ย
and finally, their most recent album: explosions. okay this album is so much different than any predecessing albums. the songs that stick out to me most are lifetime and redemption. starting with redemption, the theme of this song well, redemption. it talks about how this person never gave up on them, even when things were hard, and they didnt think there was hope, but this person gave them hope, and they helped them to get better, to the point they'll "never go back to that condition". i think thats such a strong theme; when someone never gives up on you. that's the type of person you never let go of. as for lifetime, its about losing someone too soon. you thought you'd have them forever, and then suddenly they are gone. my favorite lyrics from this song are "you showed me the way when i was lost and alone, but you never really showed me how to let you go." and" never again will i look into the only eyes that knew me" now that lyric is just so painful to hear, full of loss and grief, that the one person, who truly got you is just gone. the lifetime music video is also rly cool, a tribute to the lives lost in a tornado in kentucky. my favorite songs from this album are lifetime, redemption, and neurotic.
its been 2 years since they dropped explosions, and theres usually like 3 years (give or take) between their albums, so im rly hoping for a new album next year!!
