The average internet folk and mass media expectations

There's something annoying I notice with the rise of YouTube video essayists, small influencers, and the death of the celebrity. Now that everyone can be seen, we live in a state of hyper-awareness that's exhausting. For example, when I wanna post a story on Insta about a real problem I have or a really silly joke... I don't dare to do that anymore cause' it could "taint my image". The thing is that, I wasn't even aware that people would roast their friends' posts behind their back and bully them, until I saw some friends of mine being really nasty about a guy we know.

We see the exceptional facet of people all of the time. Hence, we are more prone to expect uplifting content, high quality editing and scripting from any random folk on the internet because anyone can end up in the public eye now.

We are expected to adhere ourselves to a consistent and polished image, but no one is like that irl. In actuality, we have shitty takes, we are ignorant, we have personal issues and we overshare.

I am not saying that we should turn the internet into a cesspool (it already is). I am saying that I wanna see more normal people with flaws, people who write raw paragraphs and waffle about the things they love and hate. Because, it seems like being too earnest is a crime and all platforms push banal content: Why do I have to dig so much to find good poetry here? But then I can immediately find some rando bullying kids?

Now everyone has to be positive, professional looking, and advertisement-friendly.

Can you believe that I hear people using internet euphemisms in person? You know? Those euphemisms that started being used cause' companies are affraid of associating themselves with the real world.

Most of the content I see pushed in these platforms is either extremely banal or an ultra sophisticated video essay. There's no in-between in the mainstream, just a dichotomy of influencer-shitpost.

Where are the normal people who have problems and ugly hair? The ones without sponsors and messy rooms? Why are we scared of being seem? Why the hell are we so PR trained if we don't matter?

I'm sick of the real world feeling so corporate and digestible.

I'm sick of those fucking plastic leaves from Amazon that everyone puts in their room.

I'm sick of seeing the contrails everywhere in the sky.

I'm sick of seeing the planet filled with cheap waste that didn't make anyone happy.

I'm sick of seeing insecure adult women thinking that they are Regina George,

I'm sick of the people who want to stuff themselves with information to forget how empty they feel.

I'm sick of everyone having a persona.

I'm sick of opinions only coming to life when they appear in online discourse.

I'm sick of the people who think they're amazing just cause' they're pretty (and sick of the people who lick their asses).

Bye

Venezuela libre!
