Musicians/music artists/singers who have passed are in no way uncommon, I mean everyone dies eventually right? But what makes these people so interesting is perhaps how they died or how old they were at the time of their passing, something about that just feels so tragic and you can’t help but wonder what it’d be like if they were still around today.
But I believe the sort of odd part of this is when you start to miss said musician. It’s weird, to miss someone you barely knew and in fact never even knew personally. To miss someone who perhaps died long before you were born or old enough to have known of their significance in music history.Â
And with that fact alone, their music has a sort of lingering sadness about it even if the music itself is not sad at all. You listen to every syllable of a word, every line of lyric and you become constantly in awe how someone could have written something so good as if it was poetry or how someone has such a wonderful voice or how the instrument they play could never match the skills of those currently alive. It seems to me that once someone is gone, you seem to appreciate their efforts a whole lot more. Some become almost free of criticism entirely and some even viewed as if they had done no wrong before. Not to discredit all the good deeds they actually have done of course, I could only imagine some of them with the best intentions because as I said earlier, most of us never knew these people to make such personal comments about them and I believe it’s only fair and moral to keep it that way.
But of course not everyone has morals. A common thing I tend to see with musicians who died at a fairly young age is people making their death some sort of joke which in case you’re too dumb to realise, these are almost in no way funny and always tend to catch me by surprise that someone would even joke about such a thing.Â
To put it into summary, I believe the notion of missing a dead musician you barely knew is nothing new, it may be viewed as peculiar to some but showing emotion towards something is rather normal so I guess I don’t believe it is so

same as any kind of celebrity it's sort of easy to detach the "real human being" aspect from someone famous and start treating them like a fictional character or something but i hate how often i see people who don't seem to consider that's what they're doing and continue to make pretty insensitive jokes
i get this entirely.. it's so tough to express the effect the death of someone you never personally knew can have, sounds kind of weird or overly sensitive to mention sometimes especially if they as you say died before you were born/were aware of them

U got it spot on. When it comes to people in the entertainment industry it’s so easy to create an image of them just by how they may act on screen/stage.
It definitely is hard to explain especially to people who essentially just view music as music and nothing more but music can be personal and there’s just a whole other layer of emotion added to it when the person behind it is no longer around, I can’t even imagine how worse it might feel for those who actually do have a personal connection to these people
