20.06.24 Just an Indian kid

When youre just an indian kid sitting on the floor of your bathroom with a shade of foundation thats entirely wrong because the industry wants to be more inclusive and by that i mean as many black shades as possible. 

And you start thinking that your skin colour cant be reproduced not because youre one of a kind but because your skin just isnt beautiful. Because thats what makeup is supposed to do. Make me pretty. 

And i realise that the pretty colour that everyone has been hyping about can only be achieved if i conceal my entire lips with so much concealer you cant see the underneath anymore. 

Its pretty. Im pretty. And then i see myself in the mirror. 

Just an indian kid, sitting on the bathroom floor with a wrong shade of foundation and the perfect shade of pink lips that i couldnt pull off. Not without the perfect shade of skin. The shades you find in the stores. Im not pretty. Makeup doesn’t look good on me, doesn’t make me feel pretty. Although thats what makeup is supposed to do. Right?
