I've been watching several hour long reviews of different pokemon games because to nobody's surprise I have been doing hardly anything over summer break... like most interesting thing was me going to watch blue lock with a friend (that breakup was crazy) and having my teeth pulled out bcz im getting braces soon. then going to a friend's bbq which will be fun
But anyway, it sucks sooo much with the state pkmn games are in recently. Black/white and black/white 2 had them perfect the 2d formula and then they had to toss it out the window to make it 3D and that just marked their downfall.
not financial downfall by any means, everyone and their cousins bought the scarlet/violet game (10 million copies... wow) only to be met with the most barebones laggy and generally unpleasant looking game which is only justified by the franchise it got vomited out of
dont get me wrong. i was very big on pokemon back when i was younger. my first 3ds game was ultra sun meaning i grew up with the 3d games. later on i also got to try sword and shield, and even then, these games are soo...... bland ??? theres nothing to them. boiled chicken no seasoning core
riddle me this batman . why did people buy that hogwarts legacy game. it wasnt to bash vaguely jewish caricatures of goblins, it was for the fun of getting to be in THE hogwarts and make some wizard friends. and the nice graphics probably (i totally legally got hogwarts legacy, the story is SO lacking and the whole evil goblin plotline is barebones if you ask me)
my point is with the new paldea region and that school is; if you're going to make a plotline centered around making and having close friends... why not like,,, flesh out those characters so they arent flat. then again its not like pkmn games are very known for their amazing storytelling abilities (But black/white gets brownie points with having something genuinely interesting and subverting the usual bleak formula... plus all the details in that game... the changing seasons... literally amazing what the flip) but my point stands
i feel like scarlet/violet will either be the point everybody realizes new mainline games are just not worth it
its so wild to me thou. you have like 1000 workers and only 200 of them are the actual game producers .......??? game freak are u stupit.........????? and the others are mainly marketing like good lord
the regions arent fun anymore and the way the pokemon are just roaming about is so stupid like man WHAT are you doing lollygagging around,,.. like its kinda fun when they're around their first evos but thats the best you get. no fun territory wars or interactions and so on.... aghhhhhhhhh
im not even mad about having regional pokedexes. i get its unrealistic to animate a bunch of pokemon but then it turns out they were using the 3ds animations and models anyway so hmmm
on that note i love emulators i should get back to my pkmn black 2 save on my awesome rgbt personal computer wuuhuu
Also that whole thing with pokemon friendships. and how game freaky tries to make you care for the pkmn you catch. which stops working by time you've done it more than five times. i will admit though, pokemon camp was very nice in sword/shield
not to mention the newest pkmn designs all feel very lacking to me. not ceruledge though i love ceruledge they ate with that one
might make a post on my own hip pkmn region ive had stowed away since i was 11 subrcice and like for more and possibly longer tangents
[to anyone reading though, whats ur fav pkmn(s)? im curious, since my favs have always been mimikyu and more recently galvantula]

I love the old pokemon games, with black and black two being my absolute faves (Unova my beloved-) and it's such a shame how awful the new games are :(
Sun and Moon were alright imo, since it was the first time Game Freak tried to change the usual formula with how the gym challenge is handled, but we didn't really need Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon; there's barely any changes other than some quality of life (from what I've seen)
There's a youtuber called Radicalsoda who did a series review of Sword and Shield and he brings up a lot excellent points with the newer pokemon games... Gamefreak is just kinda money hungry; they always have been honestly, we've never really needed two different versions of the same game, ESPECIALLY, with Sword and Shield. You can see where you could've had the chance to choose which relic you want, which would mean it could just be one game, it's a shame :(
Anyways, My fave pokemon are Umbreon and Mimikyu, but my fave legendaries are Darkrai and Giratina :3

Mimikyu and umbreon are both very nice because I used to have an obsession with the mimikyu in question, and I liked umbreon a lot. Specifically the shiny. I was always a lot more partial to a sylveon thou,,, cutie patootie that could murder a fleet of dragons core. Forever the hardest hitter in my ultra sun save
Honestly giratina is such a fun legendary to me. That whole warped dimension is SO fun too aghhiuaggh. Darkrai feels a bit like its nephew lol

I do agree with the current state with Pokemon, their games are more rushed now and do lack the care and love that they used to have with the older games which is sad to see :c
I struggle to get into the newer games, but the newer gen’s aren’t so bad. Even with scarlet/violet, the story was pretty solid and had a lot of great characters in it, it’s just the poor performance that’s holding it back. Game freak is experimenting more with the formula of Pokemon and they seem to have a good ideas, they just need to actually take the time to solidify it rather than cranking out Pokemon games like they used to on horrible time crunches, which I hope they do take their time with the new entry to the series :3
Some of my favorite Pokemon are typhlosion, Lurantis, and mew! X3
i highkeyy really liked arven in sca/vio. im a sucker for characters that dislike you first and warm up to you it is SO FGOOOD AHH
lurantis typhlosion and mew are very solid picks. if i had any earlier games id probably pick cyndaquil as a starter lol
also i remember really wanting a lurantis on my ultra sun team but i didnt have enough space and my silly young mind thought that by putting them in a box it hurts their feelings (╥_╥)
SUCH a pretty pokemon though. and mew is obviously timeless its so silly looking. truly the pokemon ever

I LOVE GEN 2 SO MUCH!! So typhlosion and feraligatr are my top picks hehe
ALSO ME TOO!! I always felt so bad putting Pokemon into the boxes because it felt like I was abandoning them so I totally understand.
