I kid you not I was just thinking about that website earlier this week LMAO. I forgot almost everything about it so my opinion it is neutral. Might check it out again soon.
For thoses who r asking why was the game popular on the first place, i'll explain it to you... Back then in the old web (00's and early 10's) people were big fans of horror, they would make jumpscare/screamer videos, make creepypastas, and that kind of stuff. But screamers and jumpscares were still a new thing back, and people find them scarier than before. Now in days people don't find them scary anymore because people got used to them, but that doesnt mean the game lost it's charm.
Other thing that made the game popular is that it does the silly trick when you think it's just a cute game and nothing it's going to happend, wish that made it as a great prank for youtubers who thought it was just a cute sweet game.
Oh, and one thing that i forgot to mention, while the games doesn't really have "good" graphics, back then it was really impressive that some guy made an entire puzzle game in flash for a website. Plus, the creator did a great job adding creativity in the puzzles and some of the jumpscares.
