neocities 🤝 spacehey

if someone here uses both pls lmk

if you arent aware of what Neocities is, it is essentially a free web hosting service with an emphasis on web 1.0! i have been frequenting both for a while and i think that they are very similar in style n therefore demographic, so here is my list of things on the 2 sites that work well together!

• style

     both sites have a very retro feel. while myspace came into being quite a while after the actual internet did, the user generated content has similar motifs: blinkies, centered around the individual, and rly creative!

• user base

      on both sites, there is a huge presence of a ton of y2k subcultures like emo, scene, etc. everyone is very nice (for the most part) and it is so fun to just explore everyones profiles/sites!

• customization

      customization was one of the most important parts of the early web, and is still the main feature of both communities! while here on spacehey its all ab css, on neocities, you are using html and css to actually make your own site. that defo means neocities has a higher learning curve.

for me, i use both! i use spacehey for the social/blogging/forum aspect, and my neocities as a more creative expression of myself. you should defo check it out!!
