Review 13: Cult of the Lamb

What is Cult of the Lamb?

Cult of the Lamb is a Roguelite dungeon crawler with an entire base building section. You play as the last lamb after your entire race gets sacrificed inorder to stop the prophecy that will free an entity known as The One Who Waits. Sentenced to death by the remaining bishops of the Old Faith you are put on the chopping block and sent to the Afterlife where you first meet the former bishop The One Who Waits and are giving a deal, he’ll bring you back to life again, but all you have to do is start a Cult in his name. After answering Yes or Absolutely you are given the Red Crown which is your main way to deal damage, by turning into multiple types of weapons you go on to the roguelite part of this game. Crusades, you can go on crusades to fight enemies, gather materials and food, with the end goal of defeating the bishop of this location. You start at Darkwood with its main boss, Leshy Bishop of Chaos or given the achievement name See no Evil. After defeating the first boss you are able to go to the three other biomes with the other three Bishops. But, in order to unlock each biome you need a certain amount of followers into your cult. This is where the base building comes into play, while adventuring on crusades you can find animals who you can indoctrinate into your own Cult. These same Cult members are the most important aspect to the game allowing the ability to unlock new items and buildings to expand and improve your cult. These members can be given jobs such as; Woodchopper, Miner, Cook and Cleaner. Remember to feed and give your cult members beds or they might dissent against your cult making others follow in their footsteps and end up leaving your cult entirely. The loyalty of your members can go down for many different reasons, some being: not fed, quests failed, missing beds or overall dirtiness of your cult (including poop and body left uncleaned). Now back into the other Biomes you have: Anura with Heket, Bishop of Famine or Speakno evil, Anchordeep with Kallamar, Bishop of Pestilence or Hear no Evil and Silk Cradle with Shamuram Bishop of War and Knowledge or Think no Evil. After a bit you can learn bits of lore about why The One Who Waits was trapped in the Afterlife, with his real name being Narinder, Bishop of Death or Do no Evil. After an event that made Narinder Betray and attack his siblings he caused major damage to each one. Leshy’s eyes got gouged out, Heket’s throat cut open, Kallamar’s ears ripped off and Shamura’s skull caved in. His siblings were able to imprison Narinder, chaining him down in the afterlife. This is also where the  achievement names came from with each based on their issues.

What brought me to Cult of the Lamb?

I’m an avid fan of roguelite games and the cutesy art style caught my attention.

Where can you play it?

You can play it on: Steam, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.

Would I recommend it?

Yes, if you enjoy roughlite with a side of base/people managing this is a great game to play. There's also an update in development that will allow local co-op. So if you have a nearby friend who might be interested in joining you on crusades in person this is a great game to play.

9/10
